In group 1, Sean Wang twice recovered from being 2-1 behind against both Andrii Paniushkin and Tom Lodziak, to win 3-2. Sean showed some great mental strength and caused problems all nigh with his new kicking topspin serves!
In group 2, Cristian Minu remained undefeated, winning all three of his matches. He was pushed to a decider by Nilanjana Datta, but managed to win the final game 3-2. Carlos Coutinho also won two matches, but had to retire with a leg injury, so was unable to challenge Cristian for the top spot.
In group 3, Claudio Coutinho put in a very strong display, winning all three matches. Both Paul Gumbley and Jin Wang were able to take one game from Claudio, but the attacking skills of junior player proved too strong and he finished the evening with an impressive 3-1, 3-1, 3-0 set of results.
Group 4 was incredibly close, with 4 of the 6 matches finishing 3-2. Three players – Cian Fincham-Cronin, Jenny Martin and Elena Zhelezina – all finishing with two wins. But it was Cian who finished top of the group, having a better points win/loss ratio.
And in group 5, newcomer Zoe Ratcliffe finished top, winning all three matches. She was pushed all the way by Liz Hill, but Zoe recovered from 2-0 to secure a 3-2 win. It was a great comeback at the end of the evening in a very warm sports hall!
